Holiday Season

Don’t get mad when you can’t get in to the sold-out film
Set up a Monopoly board in the cinema lobby
Stack red hotels on the expensive spaces
Make summer plans to meet your friends
And come along

Two TV detectives sit at their desks like news readers facing the studio cameras and shake their heads over the story of another crooked cop. It’s Christmas Day. Let’s go with them for a drive downtown. City lights play on the windshield. Outdoors on the grounds of a college campus in Pittsburgh, Pa., we follow written directions on how to construct a small pair of pneumatic bongo drums, using an air compressor to tighten the skins. Think that’s funny, mister? Let’s see some I.D.

Wake up naked on the beach
Alert and strangely calm, considering
The tide is out; the sand soft and dry
Powdery white in the light of a full moon

Back at the rental your mom’s asleep
On the old white wicker couch
When she’s disturbed by wandering young men
Who have no place to stay

Curse them and kick them out
Before they break toys in the sandbox
And mess with the deck furniture
Grab their insolent leader by the collar
Holler you can do anything you want!
Stop blaming and complaining
Do what you want to do
